About Through Waves

The Music of the Other Spheres.

Not so often we find the treasures hidden in the independent music scene: its undeniable beauty, mysticism and above all else, honesty. The musical act THROUGH WAVES headed by Brazilian born Raine Holtz is an unsettling and charming example of this fact, at times ignored.

A delicate mixture of alternative rock, folk, world music, classical influences and ambience spawning from Celtic to middle-eastern rhythms and bretain traditional music, THROUGH WAVES threads elegantly its mysterious and conceptual art, creating a whole new uncharted and mythological world, singing about the emotional frailty of human condition. Despite being admittedly sad (because of its author’s nature), the project becomes a documentation of universal feelings, fears and disillusions; yet it carries the hope of not being alone, and there’s where the true beauty of Raine’s music lies: shared so that a good thing can come to those who listen to it.

Amidst the turmoil of empty, repetitive and uninspiring music we currently consume, THROUGH WAVES makes its way with an unpretentious personality. Strongly recommended for those in search of more than just a CD to listen to every once in a while: a true journey to the depths of the ocean that pulses inside every one of us.

About Raine Holtz

In his own words.

“I do not know whatever happened with the past twenty years of my life. Assuming it is just a short period of time, as it spawns my human birth and infant development years, one could be naturally inclined to believe it is an unnecessary memory, and perhaps it is. But there must have something back in those years that I should be aware of, something that could explain what driven me towards this infinite sadness, and thus my need to create music. I have nothing, save a vague prospect that makes sense enough.

I can recall blurred memories of my once constant attempt of being part of the world: my general loneliness (self induced or not), always the “odd child”, the misfit in virtually every single environment a child should just be a child; my growing taste for a parallel world that, working fine for a kid, simply wouldn’t function reliably on a grown man’s life; my failed relationships never involving love from my part (because I used to fancy myself unable to feel such a thing); and finally, the eventual infatuation I developed for a person, naturally only culminating in further sadness... That is all my brain can make up. All my life up to this point has been one grand failure at being a normal person, and that is what contributed for my progressive seclusion, my oceanic journey seeking asylum from a world that I couldn’t blame for my unfitting shape. I suppose it would be easy to say I passed the latter years in a “depression” state, but in my case that wouldn’t be completely true. I was never fully sad, neither happy in any way: I was, and still am a glass of nothing. What then is left for me to do apart from creating beauty out of the depths of my hideous ugliness? That is why THROUGH WAVES exists. This is my sole manner to cope with the everyday life I’m forced to live, as suicide is no longer an option for my case (because that would imply too many problems on my next level of existence).

I sincerely hope that, through all the waves of my discontent, my work can serve as a medium to the listener to find something good, truthful and beautiful inside them… And forgetting – at least for the fleeting moment a song lasts – the awful burden of life.”

About The Schooner Harbour

The Refuge for the Dispossessed.

In 2006, Raine Holtz created THROUGH WAVES at the cold Brazilian town of Curitiba. Seeking independence and complete autonomy to produce and manage his music, he funded along The Schooner Harbour, his “indie label” of sorts, through which he can share the work with the world. Being more of a home-studio and an utopist concept, The Schooner Harbour became the confidence he needed in order to embrace the “do it yourself” wave that rapidly spreads across the musical industry, since there was never any support whatsoever of major labels to properly take care of this project. Relying solely on the good will of the small, but devoted fanbase, The Schooner Harbour is a proof that hard work and passion are the most appropriate tools to make a dream come true; and going beyond the mere “label” concept, it is the port of a distant shore, refuge for the dispossessed and lost souls in search of rest, understanding and peace.

This is the home of THROUGH WAVES, the most beautiful music the world has never heard.
